In 2020 our performance of our first production, Coppeli-A.I., at the Edmonton Fringe was cancelled due to the pandemic. All of the artists were asked to come up with fake show names and descriptions to sell fake tickets for in order to fundraise for the festival. We submitted My Dinner With Arby: in which two clowns would engage in Arby’s based body horror and rob the audience at a real Arby’s restaurant. Years later the title still bounced around in our conversations - My Dinner With Andre being one of our biggest influences in our current phase of work - Jake and I decided to turn the joke into a reality.

We instinctively began following a similar process with which Wallace Shawn and Andre Gregory wrote My Dinner With Andre. We sourced the writing entirely from ourselves and from recorded conversations between Jake and me, as well as other friends who are in a similar place with theatre as us.

We hesitated to start making this play because at this point in our careers we were worried that we had not accumulated enough interesting thoughts, and we did not yet have the wisdom, in order to accomplish forty five minutes of compelling conversation about art and life. We decided however that this show, and our clowns, could be a vessel for us to explore our current positions in art and life.

So we bring you our relatively non-amateur semi-improvised brechtian adaptation of My Dinner With Andre. We are not experts and we hope you learn something.
